The Elephant, the Mouse, and Fragile Strength

Grief settled deep upon the heart,

where strength dissolved into frailty.

All that grandeur, all that might,

a thorn against porcelain’s light.

Fear rose high, a trembling crest,

when from his depths, a guest arrived.

For one displaced from their true place,

the world shrinks small, no matter how vast.

Either break free from the binding cocoon,

or be punished—by repetition’s hand.

Elephant on a fragile stool in a small china shop, scared of a tiny mouse with a shopping bag among porcelain vases.
